Project Green AV Review of InfoComm STEP Rating System Draft 1

Congratulations to InfoComm and all in the industry who worked together to create this first draft of the STEP Rating System.  This is exemplary work and a major stride for Green AV.

The STEP Rating System hits on two of the most important topics in Green AV for the future.  First, STEP wisely focuses on the full cycle of equipment, awarding points for re-use, sourcing reclaimed equipment and putting in place environmentally responsible plans for equipment’s end of life (including recycling).

Dimension 85 Adds Data Centre Metrics Support to Assessor

Philip Vandenberg January 14th, 2010

London - Dimension 85 has added support for the 2010 release of the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency to the assessment functionality of Assessor. With immediate effect the EU’s new best practice guidelines have been incorporated into Assessor’s data base. This enables organisations to be able to assess and benchmark their data centre’s energy efficiency against the most current industry accepted de-facto standards.

To complement the new best practice guidelines Assessor has been improved with advanced features that increase the efficiency of the assessment process and access to key information relevant to each assessment.

"This release of Assessor coincides with the EU’s new best practice for 2010 and further signifies Dimension 85's commitment to maintaining currency and value in the investment made by our customers. The new assessment features, such as search filters, advanced reporting, notes management and enhancing the dynamic information facility continues delivering on our vision of providing Data Centre Managers with a clear and consistent set of consulting tools for understanding energy issues, reducing energy costs and to meet the increasing demand generated by corporate energy commitments." said Philip Vandenberg of Dimension 85.

Assessor is a unique web-based service developed to help data centre owners manage their strategic energy efficiency initiatives. Assessor enables organisations to establish benchmarks and conduct assessments on data centre infrastructure and exploits the expertise and best practice recommendations of the European Union. Using a proven and repeatable consulting methodology, Assessor delivers a series of management and tactical-level reports aimed at addressing energy efficiency issues and increasing staff awareness of the subject.

It is a concern for Governments worldwide that data centre energy consumption is set to double by 2020. As technology changes to address energy issues, the problem requires a long term strategic approach based on the traditional management practices of benchmarking and assessment. Assessor fulfils this requirement enabling Data Centre Managers to reduce energy costs and empower their own specialists to create high quality assessment reports for enhancing management decision making processes.

Assessor is suitable for any organisation, worldwide, that is concerned about its energy costs and consumption and wants to conduct a programme of benchmarking and assessment without relying on external consultants or IT vendor’s service organisations.

Dimension 85 Ltd is a best practice company specialising in IT and data centre energy issues and an approved Endorser of the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency.
